Welcome to Susan's Bay Circuit Diary! This blog follows my adventures with my dog Sulu hiking the Bay Circuit Trail.  Feel free to subscribe (see the little "subscribe" oval above). The rest of the past posts can be found using the little menu on the left.  If you are curious how this all started, go here.

Thank you Mass Bay Railroad Enthusiasts for supporting rail trails!

I had less time today and more concerns about heat. I thought I might piece together two parts of the BCT by bikejoring: the Reformatory Branch Trail and the Narrow Gauge Rail Trail

Because I didn’t micromanage Google Maps, I ended up parking in an odd (possibly not legal) place, but with direct access to the Reformatory Branch Trail, only a short distance from where I meant to go.  It was definitely not Google’s fault that I started out going in the wrong direction on the trail (because it “felt right”, eye roll).  It was there that I experienced the highlight of the trip: a fawn crossed the trail ahead of us, close enough to be seen clearly but not so close as to be alarmed. I’ve actually never seen a fawn in the wild before. From the end of the Reformatory Branch Trail, there’s no protected bike path, just roadway, to Bedford’s Depot Park.  Depot Park is where the Minuteman Rail Trail intersects with the two other trails.  From Depot Park, the Narrow Gauge Trail is a few blocks away past Bedford’s Memorial Park. I didn’t have to travel far to get to the place Walter and I stopped last month when we were coming from the opposite direction.  Even though the trip was well under five miles (4.3 including the bonus mileage from going in the wrong direction), Sulu found it pretty hot and did most of it at a trot.

A rival BCT!
